New York City public high schools placed high in the statewide SkillsUSA Competition at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. Over 2,000 students competed in 82 categories like 3D Visualization, Construction Skills, IT Technologies and Health Care. Eleven New York City schools sent their biggest contingent yet, winning 29 medals in a broad set of contests. Many winners will go on to the SkillsUSA National Finals in June in Kansas City.

Bronx Design & Construction Students Receive Sustainable Energy Award in Abu Dhabi

Students from one of New York City’s newest CTE high schools, the Bronx Design & Construction Academy, won international recognition for their sustainability research in the global Zayed Future Energy Prize. The students built a unique rooftop energy research installation and have presented the results of their work at scientific conferences. In a recent Daily News article, reporter Joey Scarborough wrote about the school’s efforts and posted a photo of student Ray Figueroa receiving the prize from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, where the award ceremony was held:
