Volunteers Making a Difference
The CTE Advisory Council and the Industry Commissions are volunteer groups advising the New York City Department of Education and supporting CTE teachers and principals. We have some administrative support from the school system, but the work gets done because committed individuals pull together the time, the talent and the connections to make good things happen in the schools.
We invite you to consider our wide-ranging mission and join us at the level that’s right for you. Here’s a list of some of the work we need:
Experienced industry practitioners who can evaluate curriculum,material and facilities as part of state CTE program certifications
Employers who can hire summer interns, conduct office and plant tours for students and teachers, and participate in Career Days and job shadowing events
Industry experts, business educators and post-secondary teachers who can create meaningful professional development courses, in person and on-line.
Senior business professionals who can pair with students or teachers to guide them in their disciplines.
Experienced do-ers to serve as judges of student work in some of the many CTE competitions held each year.
Connected individuals who can raise money for sponsorships, college tuition, book money and certification fees.
Public speakers who can tell their CTE stories to educators, policymakers, parents and students throughout the City.
Corporate facilities managers who can host Council, committee and Commission meetings for 20 to 200 industry volunteers.
