In a collaboration with the Brooklyn Parent Academy, the New York City Department of Education and the United Federation of Teachers, the CTE Council is organizing a Parents Meeting about high school options on Thursday, August 15 at Brooklyn Borough Hall.

New York City high schools are preparing students for many different career paths. Beyond traditional academic schools, there are Career & Technical Education (CTE) schools offering students a head start for careers in Healthcare, Software Engineering, Advertising, Aviation, Emergency Management, Construction Trades, Graphic Design, Video Production, Hospitality & Tourism, Culinary and more. CTE graduates get a Regents Diploma plus a technical endorsement that shows they are ready for business.

Learn how to make sense of the choices that all students have to get started early in job fields that interest them. Hear from students, teachers and business professionals about CTE programs and our industry partners like Apple, IBM, MTA, Cisco, the New York Times and more.

The agenda is simple and to-the-point:

  1. An overview of career and technical education: how it works, what’s available and how CTE leads to college and career pathways
  2. Real life stories from current and recent CTE students about how they are preparing for life after high school
  3. Ideas and perspectives from some of the many industry partners who help the school system keep CTE programs relevant and up to date

Bring your questions, discuss your student’s goals and be prepared for an interesting and enlightening evening,
